Beware of the heresies and some practices of Torben Sondergaard, head of the “last reform” movement
Torben Sodengard is the founder of the “last reformation” movement and founder of the “pioneer school”. He has an online site at https://thelastreformation.com/ .He is the author of some books and travels around the world teaching believers some practices and doctrines that are not reflected in the Holy Scriptures.
Many of the healings that he and his followers have done and that are reported in his videos on youtube seem true, although it must be said that there should be further evidence that they have been real healings even after a while. But even if healing can happen as well as liberation, this does not mean that we must accept and believe in the wrong things that he teaches. We must accept and retain what is true and biblical and reject everything that is false, wrong or unconfirmed in the sum of the Holy Scriptures. For this reason, brothers and sisters, you must beware of the practices and heresies that he teaches. In fact, he teaches very dangerous heresies.
Next I will put a list of heresies and wrong things that he practices and teaches that you must reject because they are antibiblical and scandalize.
Teaches that baptism in water frees us from sin and is part of salvation
According to Torben’s teachings, water baptism free from sins. That is what he says in one of his teachings:
Jesus came to free us, it is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. And how do you free us from sin? Through baptism in the water. When we recognize that we have sinned against God and decide to abandon sin, we are baptized into Jesus Christ. At that moment we die with Christ and we reborn with Christ. It is simple. That extraordinary freedom is precisely what many people experience today when we baptize them.
In the following video from minute 3 he says that baptism is necessary for salvation but there are exceptions:
So according to Torben one who is not baptized in water is still a sin’s slave. And if one is still a sin’s slave, it means that he is not saved because he is not a slave of Christ! The scriptures instead state that it is the blood of Jesus Christ that purifies us from our sins and it is faith in His sacrifice that frees us from the slavery of sin.
A believer is born again when he repents and believes in Christ Jesus and not when he is baptized. To demonstrate this i’ll quote the example of the Apostle Paul, who while he was on the road to Damascus, when he was not yet saved, Jesus appeared to him and from that moment he was born again. Then Jesus appeared to one of his servants Ananias and told him to go to Paul who was in prayer. Ananias obeyed and went to Paul and when he saw him he called him BROTHER when Paul was not BAPTIZED YET.
Then after this, he had imposed his hands over Paul in order make him recover his sight and then Paul received the baptism with the Holy Spirit,; then Ananias BAPTIZE HIM. That is what is written:
“And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. (Acts 9:1-18)
Baptism in water DOES NOT SAVE AND DOES NOT RIGENERATE, but it is the request of a good conscience to GOD and the symbol of our death and resurrection with Christ. But it has no regenerating power! A believer who was born again is saved even though he was unable to be baptized because of various impediments. I urge you to read the following teaching on baptism by examining it in the Holy Scriptures: water baptism.
He does not baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as commanded by Jesus
Torben, besides teaching that baptism wash away from sins and regenerate, does not baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as commanded by Jesus himself. Watch in the following video from minute 24 this baptism performed by Torben:
As we can see, the baptized person is not baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as commanded by Jesus in the following words:
“Go, therefore, teach all peoples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit” (Mt 28:19) .
Therefore this example of his way of baptizing is NOT BIBLICAL and therefore it should be REJECTED. Baptism must be done by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit after a person has repented and believed in the gospel.
Casting away demons from a person just after baptism
Torben, in addition to teaching some wrong things about baptism, teaches that a person may still have demons after he leaves baptism and therefore must be freed. And here he contradicts himself, because first he says that baptism gives salvation and then he says that when someone comes out of baptism in water he might still have demons. But how does a newborn believer, barely purified of sins, according to Torben’s teachings, have demons if when one is born again the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in him? How does a believer have evil spirits if it is the temple of the Holy Spirit? No, that is not possible. From this too we see that Torben is confused and does not have the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
You can see that here:
Promotes suggestion and false baptisms with the Holy Ghost
Torben practices glossolalia, i.e. a repeat syllables without a complete sense. In addition to practicing it, he also promotes this type of thing to the people on whom he lay his hands, by inspiring them and making them repeat meaningless words saying that they are baptized with the Holy Spirit. This means that many people are FALSELY baptized with the Holy Spirit, that is, they are deceived by their own suggestion and therefore they deprive themselves of the true baptism with the Holy Spirit. In the following video you will hear Torben explain his belief in languages. While explaining that there are languages that are given to all believers who serve to pray GOD , between one sentence and another, he starts speaking in “these languages”. In reality, the syllables were repeated without any sense, thus practicing the glossolalia. Obviously this is not biblical because the foreign languages are REALLY foreign languages and NOT a repeat syllables or meaningless words. Everyone is capable of doing such a thing even an atheist.
Instead in this video you can see him at work to influence a person:
He makes a man with a hair pray and receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit
In the video below you can see how Torben makes a man with hair pray and make him dishonour Christ because Scripture tells us that:
“But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. “(1 Co 11:3-4)
How can a person be guided by the Holy Ghost to act in this way, despising the Holy Scriptures and dishonorning Christ? But then how can one believe that a similar baptism with the Holy Spirit is authentic if a transgression of the word of God is committed? A person filled with the Holy Spirit does not transgress the word of God but puts it into practice; he does not despise it, but takes care to observe it. Even from this it is understood that Torben does not act on behalf of God.
The same applies to the fact that sisters are praying WITH THEIR HEAD UNCOVERED. Here too, how can one believe that these baptisms with the Holy Spirit are authentic if sisters are praying without their head uncovered dishonorning their head, which is man? Can a person filled with the Holy Spirit act in this way dishonouring his head and going against the will of GOD which is what every woman who prays or prophesies must have her head covered? In fact it is written:
“But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head” (1 Co 11:5)
Torben has a channel on youtube, as well as a facebook page, where he posts videos where he is at center of things, thus drawing attention to his person. Moreover, he has already made “films” about Christian life and those films also have him at center. These things are not good and are not suitable for Christians who want to please the Lord. Going around preaching the gospel or healing people with a camera that is recording is NOT good and it is not something GOD likes. It is VANAGLORY and is a preaching of Christ with impure motivations. One thing is if while a believer is preaching someone record him, another thing is record with a camera on purpose! Finally, to show the premier of one of his latest “films”, he organized an event in a sort of huge theatre where he also charges the entrance fee!
Put on sale things related to the kingdom of GOD
On his website there is a section called “shop” where he puts on sale various things related to the kingdom of GOD. Obviously this also should be disapproved since believers should not start selling things related to the kingdom of God but should give them FREE of charge as this is a commandment of Christ.
“freely ye have received, freely give.” (Mathew 10:8)
Here is a screenshot of the “shop” section:
Brothers and sisters in the Lord, I urge you to beware of Torben and his heresies and not to imitate him in the wrong practices and things he does. You must learn to keep the good things and reject evil ones. With regard to these “baptisms with the Holy Spirit” it must be said that they are fruits of suggestion. Regarding healings and liberations I say they can also be true and if they are, I give glory to GOD. But the fact that GOD uses someone to fulfill His designs and to draw glory from His name does not necessarily mean that He approves of all the things that are said or practiced by them. Therefore, do not only look at the signs and wonders, but consider ALL THINGS in the light of the Holy Scriptures.
You must learn to remain WARNED by the sum of the Word of God and not to go behind only the signs and wonders because many on the Lord’s day will speak of the fact that they have done signs and wonders in the name of the Lord but the Lord will turn them away from Him.
I repeat it again for the good of your soul: keep the good things and the right things and CONDEMN the wrong and antibiblical things. Be wise and mature and do not let yourself be easily seduced.
